Cilento: the highlights of the perfect yacht charter

Cilento is one of the most beautiful places of the Amalfi coast, and there are many spots to discover on a charter yacht. Let’s see some of the destinations you definitely shouldn’t miss!

  1. Baia degli Infreschi

This amazing beach can only be accessed from the sea, or, from the hinterland, by hiking along a trail. This is what makes Baia degli Infreschisuch a special and attractive destination for tourists. Nobody can resist the stunning scenery created by its rocky cliffs and crystal clear sea.

Located within Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, this beach is perfect for swimming, and if you choose to explore this stretch of coast on a luxury charter yacht, you will spot isolated coves and ancient watchtowers. One more idea is to go to the discovery of the seabed by snorkeling among the submerged caves and if you suddenly feel cold you do not have to worry: these are the freshwater springs that flow into the sea and to which the bay owes its name. You can also opt for more thrilling fun like snorkelling and cave diving, and if you suddenly feel cold you don’t have to worry: it is just the fresh water springs that flow into the sea and which gave their name to the bay.

  1. Capo Palinuro

Capo Palinuro is the true symbol of Cilento, and those who rent a luxury yacht usually stop here to visit this historical landmark, which is also characterised by limestone cliffs, sulphurous waters and hot springs, just like Baia degli Infreschi.

Capo Palinuro is known for its 35 caves, making it a major speleological route. Among them, we should mention the Grotta Azzurra, which takes its name from its intense turquoise colour generated by the light reflecting on its walls, which are characterised by alabaster flows, stalactites and stalagmites. This cave is as good as the cave of the same name in Capri. But, there are also other amazing caves, such as the Grotta d’Argento, the Grotta dei Monaci and the Grotta del Sangue.

Capo Palinuro offers diving enthusiasts a true uncontaminated natural ecosystem with corals and gorgonians, among which fish of different species swim. It is really worth swimming in these protected waters.

  1. Paestum and Velia archaeological site

Not just sun and sea: a weekend on a yacht along the Cilento coastis an amazing adventure even for history and archaeology enthusiasts, who can visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Paestum. This major ancient Greek city features Doric temples with majestic columns, such as the Temple of Ceres and the Temple of Neptune. At the National Archaeological Museum, finds and frescoes from tombs, such as the one from the Tomb of the Diver – the only evidence of Greek painting not on vases – which dates back to the 4th century BC, are on display.

Velia, another city of Magna Graecia whose excavations are one of the flagships of the whole Cilento area, is also one of the destinations that history lovers should not miss. Located between Agropoli and Palinuro, it was the heart of ancient trade routes between Etruria and Greece. Due to its location, it quickly became a trading power, seat of the Salerno Medical School and Horace’s and Cicero’s favourite holiday destination in Roman times.

During the excavations begun in 1921, almost the entire ancient city – divided between the southern and northern districts, and the acropolis with the Ionic temple and the tower of the Norman castle – was brought to light.

What else? Cilento is definitely the best destination for a weekend on a luxury charter yacht, and our crew will build the best itinerary combining history and nature, art and culture, in addition to an amazing crystal clear sea!
